Terms of Service

Last updated: June 17, 2026

These terms govern your use of Buyer Lookup (the "Service") — a Chrome extension and web app that surfaces information about Upwork clients. By installing or using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

The service

Buyer Lookup shows you information about the clients behind Upwork job posts — likely company identity, the rates they have paid per contract, how they treat the freelancers they hire, and related public hiring history — assembled from publicly visible Upwork data and our own analysis.

Accounts

  • You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure.
  • One account per person. You're responsible for activity under your account.
  • You must be able to form a binding contract to use the Service.

Credits & payments

  • Unlocking a buyer's full dossier costs one credit; refreshing an already-unlocked buyer is free. New accounts receive starter credits, and early/founding users receive a larger starter grant.
  • Credits never expire and are not transferable. There is no subscription.
  • We offer a 14-day refund on unused credits and a first-purchase money-back guarantee. Beyond that, purchases are non-refundable except where required by law.
  • Prices and pack sizes may change; changes don't affect credits you already hold.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe.

Accuracy — read this

The intelligence we show is inferred and AI-generated, drawn from public data. Company identification is a best-effort probabilistic guess and can be wrong; when our confidence is low we withhold a name rather than assert one. Rate figures, summaries, and verdicts are estimates and opinions, not statements of fact, and may be incomplete or out of date. The Service is provided "as is,"for your own judgment — verify anything important before you rely on it. We don't guarantee you'll win work or that any figure is current or complete.

Data you contribute

When you use the extension on Upwork, the public client and contract data it reads is added to our shared dataset, which powers dossiers for all users. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, analyze, and use that data to operate and improve the Service. Because it is public business data and not your personal information, it may be retained as part of the shared dataset after your account closes. You represent that you are accessing only Upwork pages you are authorized to view while signed in to your own Upwork account.

Acceptable use

  • Don't resell, redistribute, or bulk-export the Service or its data.
  • Don't abuse, reverse-engineer, or attempt to circumvent credits, rate limits, or auth.
  • Don't use the Service to harass, defame, or unlawfully profile anyone.
  • Use of Upwork itself remains subject to Upwork's own terms — complying with them is your responsibility.

Independence from Upwork

Buyer Lookup is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Upwork. "Upwork" and related marks belong to their respective owners.

Intellectual property

We own the Service, its software, and its branding. These terms don't grant you any rights in them beyond using the Service as intended.

Disclaimers & limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for decisions you make based on the information shown. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding 12 months.

Termination

You can stop using the Service and uninstall the extension at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or abuse the Service.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
